I spent way too long thinking a honeymoon had to be this big expensive thing. Like if we didn’t go to some overwater bungalow place that costs more than our wedding, we were doing it wrong. I’d scroll through Instagram feeling that little pinch in my chest, you know the one. Like, how does everyone afford this except us.
I started looking into the honeymoon destinations for couples and I thought I would find a lot of places that were not very nice. I thought we would have to stay in hotels or eat bad food the whole time. But the more I looked into the honeymoon destinations for couples the more I realized that they are not about giving up things you want. The cheapest honeymoon destinations for couples are about being smart with your money.
The thing is nobody tells you that if you choose the place for your honeymoon it does not have to feel like you are saving money. It just feels like a fun trip that you can pay for without worrying about your credit card bill all the time. The cheapest honeymoon destinations, for couples can be really great if you pick the spot.
Let me tell you what I found, not as a travel agent, just as someone who almost spent way too much money on a trip we’d be paying off for years.
Bali, Indonesia
Everyone talks about Bali. There is a good reason for that. You know how it feels when you see those pictures of pools that seem to go on and you think it must be very expensive.. It is not expensive at all. We found villas that have pools and they cost less than a regular hotel room in any city in the Western world. Bali has rice fields that’re very beautiful temples and you can have dinner on the beach with candles. The food in Bali is amazing. It does not cost a lot of money. You can get spa treatments that would cost a lot of money back home but in Bali they cost around forty dollars. Bali is always ranked as one of the places for couples to go on honeymoon if they want a tropical vacation that is exotic but they do not want to pay as much money as they would in the Maldives. We spent about one third of the money that we had planned to spend on our trip, to Bali.
Vietnam
If Bali feels too obvious for you Vietnam is the place that will really surprise you. I am talking about Hoi An it has streets with lots of lanterns and cafes near the river this is probably one of the romantic places I have seen in pictures.. How much does it cost? It is really cheap. You can stay in a nice hotel room eat very good food and ride bicycles through the rice fields all for what you would pay for a weekend in a not so great hotel in a city. Vietnam is one of the cheapest places for a honeymoon it is great, for couples who want to see nice things and learn about the culture without all the people.
Sri Lanka
This one surprised me. Just a short flight away, Sri Lanka gives you beaches and mountains and tea plantations and wildlife safaris, all in one trip . You can take that famous blue train through the hills, hang out the door with the wind in your hair, watch the tea gardens roll by, and then head to the coast for some beach time . The daily costs are so low it almost feels illegal. Definitely among the cheapest honeymoon destinations for couples who want variety without the stress.
Nepal
For the mountain lovers, the ones who look at beach photos and feel nothing but want to stare at the Himalayas and breathe that crisp air, Nepal is the answer . Pokhara is this peaceful lakeside town with views of the Annapurna range that will make you forget phones even exist. Boat rides on Phewa Lake, sunrise from Sarangkot, cozy cafes, super affordable guesthouses . It’s one of those cheapest honeymoon destinations for couples that feels like a secret.
Udaipur, India
If you want to stay near your home Udaipur is really great. It is called the City of Lakes and it has palace views nice boat rides on Lake Pichola when the sun sets and restaurants on rooftops where you can see everything. You do not have to stay in palace hotels you can stay in a nice old house in the old part of the city for less money and still see really great views. Udaipur has things it is romantic and it is not expensive so it is a good place to visit. Udaipur is one of the places for couples to go on honeymoon because it is not expensive and it feels like a royal place but you do not have to spend a lot of money like royalty.
Here’s the thing I learned that matters most. Travel off-season. Book early and enjoy your meals where the locals eat. Use public transport. These aren’t sacrifices, they’re how you actually experience a place instead of being wrapped in some sanitized tourist bubble.
A honeymoon shouldn’t feel like a debt sentence. It should feel like a beginning. The cheapest honeymoon destinations for couples aren’t about going without. They’re about going somewhere that makes every rupee or dollar stretch so far that you forget you were even worried in the first place.
Now stop scrolling Instagram feeling bad and start looking at flight deals. Your actual adventure is out there, and it doesn’t cost anywhere near what you think.
