Maldives vs Bali for Honeymoon

Maldives vs Bali for Honeymoon

The confusion I am having from a very long time is weather to go to Maldives or Bali? At first, I used to refer to pictures from Instagram. First, I would come across pictures of those gorgeous over water bungalows having glass flooring from where one could see the fish swimming down there, only to then see pictures of the rice field and the jungle pools with fog surrounding in the morning. I would surely have felt that pull in my heart, wouldn’t I? It was hard for me to choose to go to Maldives or Bali because both the places were so varied.

I started researching the Maldives vs Bali and I thought I would find a winner. I thought one would be obviously better than the other and the choice would be easy.. The more I researched the Maldives vs Bali the more I realized that neither one is better. They are just different. Completely totally beautifully different. The decision to go to the Maldives or Bali is not about which ones the choice it is about which one is the right choice for you right now with the money you have and the things you want to do.

The thing is nobody tells you that when you are comparing the Maldives vs Bali you are not just comparing places to visit. You are comparing two ways to experience a honeymoon. If you pick the one for who you are you will feel it. You will spend your trip wishing you were else. So let me tell you what I found out not as a travel expert. As someone who almost went crazy trying to decide between the Maldives and Bali.

The Cost Difference

Lets talk about the money. The conversation about the Maldives vs Bali starts with money. It ends with money for most of us. The difference is huge.

In the Maldives you will pay least three hundred to five hundred dollars a night for a basic overwater bungalow. That is the end. That does not include your meals, which’re expensive because everything has to be brought in on boats and planes. That does not include your seaplane transfer, which can cost another four hundred dollars per person just to get to your resort. You will easily spend five to six thousand dollars for a week before you even realize it.

In Bali you can get a villa with your pool for fifty to a hundred dollars a night. The food in Bali is really cheap. It is amazing. A massage in Bali is ten dollars. You can have a dinner for two people with drinks in Bali. It will be maybe thirty dollars total. Bali is a place where you could spend two weeks for what one week in the Maldives costs.

So when people talk about the Maldives vs Bali the budget question is the thing that separates the Maldives and Bali. The Maldives is a trip that you would take once in a lifetime because it is a splurge. Bali is a trip that you could take again every year because it is not so expensive.

The Vibe Difference

When you are thinking about the Maldives versus Bali this is the part where you really have to think. You should sit down with your partner. Have a conversation about it. The Maldives is a place that’s really quiet and alone. The Maldives is very beautiful and stunning because the Maldives is so quiet. When you are at the Maldives you are on an island with nothing around you except for the water that goes on and on.

You can see fish swimming under the floor of your room at the Maldives because there are glass panels at the Maldives. You can walk off your deck into the ocean at the Maldives. There are no cars driving by, no groups of people and no loud noises at the Maldives. It is just you, your partner and the blue water at the Maldives. This is very romantic, like in the movies. It feels like nothing bad can happen because you are stuck on the island at the Maldives with no place to go and nothing to do except look at each other and the ocean at the Maldives.

The Maldives is really something because of this. You and your partner will just be staring at the ocean at the Maldives and at each other. The Maldives is like that it is a place where you can just be, with your partner and enjoy the Maldives.

Bali is life. It is a life that’s really full of things happening. You see a lot of temples and ceremonies and offerings over the place. There is music playing. People laughing and scooters moving fast with families on them. The rice fields in Bali are very green and they go up and down the hills in layers it looks like they never end.

The jungle in Bali is where the monkeys live and there are waterfalls but they are hard to find you have to walk a way to see them. The beaches in Bali are not calm they are wild and really dramatic. What I like about Bali is that it is not a place it is a place that is full of energy and it makes you feel alive.

So when you are trying to decide between the Maldives and Bali you have to ask yourself do you want to be alone, in the middle of the ocean or do you want to be a part of something that’s full of life and culture something that is pulsing with energy something that is rich and full of Bali life. I think Bali is the place to be if you want to feel like you’re a part of something big something that is full of Bali life. Bali has a lot to offer and it is a place that will keep you busy and excited all the time it is a place that’s full of Bali life.

What You Actually Do

In the Maldives you would go snorkeling. In the Maldives you would go scuba diving. In the Maldives you would sit on your deck. Then you will watch the sunset. Have a drink. In the Maldives you would have dinner on the beach. Put your feet in the sand.

It could be even better if you take a boat to an island for a picnic. So you would do this.

Let me say this is not for everybody. Sometimes one needs a trip where one does not have to think about what to do. All one has to think about is when to go for a swim. You will have to be honest with yourself if the Maldives is good enough for you. Some people would get bored in the Maldives. Some people would feel trapped in the Maldives. Some people start to feel a little crazy after a days, in the Maldives.

Comparing Maldives with Bali.

In Bali you can hike up a volcano. Watch the sun come up. You can visit temples that’re on the side of cliffs. You can take a class. Learn how to make food like curry. You can go surfing you can go shopping you can look at waterfalls you can do yoga while monkeys are watching you. You can visit a place called the monkey forest. You can watch people dance. You can ride a bike through the rice fields. Every day can be an adventure. If you like to do things the choice, between the Maldives and Bali is easy. If you want to stay busy go to Bali. If you want to relax and do nothing in a place go to the Maldives.

The Food Situation

This one surprised me honestly. When I was doing my research on the Maldives vs Bali I did not expect food to matter much. It does.

Maldives food is good. It is expensive and limited. You are eating at your resort because there is else to go. The buffets are nice. After a days you start craving something different. Every meal costs a lot. A bottle of water can be eight dollars. A basic lunch for two can hit a hundred dollars easily. You feel like you are paying for every bite.

Food in Bali is really something. The fruit is so fresh. It actually tastes like fruit. I love getting smoothie bowls with dragon fruit.. The nasi goreng is packed with so much flavor. Then there is the satay with peanut sauce it is something you will think about for a time. The curries are rich. They make you feel good. You can get food from a place called a warung, which is like a food stall and it only costs a couple of dollars.. The crazy thing is that the food from these little stalls is often better, than the food you get at restaurants back home. If you compare the food in the Maldives to Bali food it is not a fair comparison. Bali food is the winner every time especially if you really love eating Bali food. Bali food is the best.

The Travel Time

From India getting to the Maldives takes three to four hours by flight. It is easy. No jet lag. You land take a boat or seaplane to your island you are in paradise within a day.

Bali takes effort. Eight to ten hours of travel more with layovers. It is a journey crossing time zones you will feel tired when you arrive. Once you are there you have much more to explore. So the Maldives vs Bali decision might come down to how travel you can handle. Quick escape with effort Maldives. Willing to travel for variety, Bali.

The Verdict

Here is what I finally figured out after all my obsessing. The Maldives vs Bali question has no answer. It has an answer for you.

If you have the money if you want romance and isolation if you want to feel like you’re in a dream you cannot wake up from if you want to disconnect completely and just stare at the ocean together pick the Maldives. It is expensive. It is worth it for that experience.

If you want value for your money if you want culture and adventure and incredible food if you want to explore and come home feeling like you actually went somewhere pick Bali. It is the choice and honestly it might be the more memorable one too.

I picked Bali. Not because it is better. Because it was better for us. I have zero regrets. Someday when we have saved up again we will do the Maldives. We will do it knowing what we are getting into. Because understanding the Maldives vs Bali differences helped us choose without that feeling of missing out.

So please stop torturing yourself. Look at your bank account honestly. Look at your travel style honestly. Look at what you want not what Instagram tells you to want. Then pick. Commit. Book it.

Your honeymoon will be beautiful regardless. You are with the person you love in a place celebrating the start of your life together. The Maldives, vs Bali debate is noise. What matters is that you go. That you make memories. That you stop scrolling and start packing.

Now pick one. Go book it. You have analyzed enough.
