Okay so.
I wasn’t always someone who could do makeup in five minutes. There was a time when I would literally sit on my bathroom floor at 6am watching YouTube videos, pausing every two seconds, trying to figure out why my concealer looked like dried toothpaste. I owned so much stuff. Drawers full. And I still felt like I had nothing to wear on my face.
Turns out, the problem wasn’t me. It was the amount of products.
Once I stopped buying everything that went viral and actually figured out what I needed, everything got easier. Faster. Cheaper, honestly.
So these are the must have beauty products that survived the purge. The ones I grab when I’m tired, when I’m happy, when I’m running late, and when I actually have time to enjoy my coffee first. This is not a professional beauty essentials list from a celebrity makeup artist. This is just what works for a normal person with normal skin and a normal amount of chaos in the morning.

Must-Have Beauty Products
1. A light skin tint, not a heavy foundation
I stopped wearing real foundation and I’m never going back. It just feels like a mask now. A skin tint is like your skin but blurry. In a good way. You still have pores, have that one freckle and you look more alive.
2. A concealer that doesn’t feel like dry paint
Under-eyes are so annoying. Some concealers look great for one hour and then turn into a cracked mess. You want something creamy. Something you can tap in with your finger and it just disappears into your skin. That’s the one.
3. Cream blush that you don’t need a brush for
I frequently misplace brushes due to not cleaning them. To be honest, I do not like doing more than using my fingers for some tasks so when it takes more than that to complete a task I think it is more work than I want to do. Blending cream blush on with a finger is really easy because you can apply it and blend it at the same time and you look like you’ve been outside walking. It is an everyday make-up product that I feel good about using it!
4. A bronzer stick (not powder)
I find myself afraid of using powdered bronzers, since there are two situations from my experience:
(1) I’ve messed up with application and applied too much, which causes an overly visible difference between the powder bronzer area on my face versus the other places on my face.
(2) I couldn’t figure out where I was supposed to put it once I have started applying my bronzer. With stick bronzer application, all I have to do is draw a few lines (anywhere from 1 to 3) on my skin and blend them out; pretty much as easy as it can get! Although I am mad at myself for not doing this earlier for some reason, I think that this method gives me effective results.
5. A tiny bit of powder
I used to bake my whole face. Like, leave powder sitting there for ten minutes. Why did we all do that? Now I just put a little powder on my nose and under my eyes. That’s it. Everything stays without looking like a desert.
6. Tinted brow gel and nothing else
I cannot do brows with a pencil. I try so hard. One side looks great. The other looks angry. Tinted brow gel fixes everything in ten seconds. Brush up, brush out, done. I would save this from a house fire. That’s how much I love it.
7. A tiny eyeshadow palette with like three colors
Please don’t buy those huge palettes. You know the ones. They look beautiful on the shelf. You use two shades and feel guilty for years. Just get a small one with a light color, a medium brown, and a dark brown. Use your finger for the lid. That’s the trick. Fingers are faster than brushes anyway.
8. Liquid highlighter, mixed into your skin tint
When previously applying powdered highlight on the cheeks, it would simply rest on top of the skin and appear as an excessive amount of glitter. Obviously this does not give an attractive result! Nowadays, if I have used a tinted skin and mixed a soft liquid highlight into the formula, I have a complete glowing appearance rather than just a few lines (on the cheeks). That is why this is one product that everyone must have, you can actually keep this product a secret!
9. A mascara that doesn’t flake into your eyes
Nothing ruins a day like mascara flakes. You’re just sitting there and suddenly your eye hurts and there’s a black speck in your vision. Awful. Find one that stays put. Brown mascara is actually really nice for daytime if black feels like too much.
10. A lip stain so you don’t have to reapply every hour
I love lipstick but lipstick does not love me. It gets on my coffee cup. It somehow ends up on my chin. A lip stain just stays. You put it on once and forget about it. Plus you can dab the extra on your cheeks and suddenly everything matches. That’s a win.
11. Setting spray because powders need to calm down
After you put on cream and powder and blush and everything, your face can look a little textured. Like you can see every tiny hair. A couple sprays of setting spray just melts it all together. Suddenly you look like skin again. It’s weird how well it works.
12. Tinted lip balm with SPF because your lips get sunburned too
I didn’t know this for most of my life. A dermatologist told me. Your lips can get sun damage. So now I keep a tinted SPF balm in my bag. It gives a little color. It protects. It’s easy. No reason not to.
13. A damp sponge because brushes are overrated
I said it. Brushes are fine. But a damp sponge? So much faster. No streaks. You just bounce it on your face like a tiny pillow. Clean it sometimes if you remember. I don’t always remember. We’re all doing our best.
14. One double-ended brush for your eyes
Okay fine, keep one brush. A double-ended one. Fluffy on one side for your crease, flat on the other for your lid. That’s literally all you need for eyeshadow. You don’t need a set of twelve different eye brushes. No one has time to clean twelve eye brushes.
15. Micellar water for your laziest nights
We both know you sleep in your makeup sometimes. I do it too. But keeping micellar water and cotton pads on your nightstand changes things. You can literally wipe your face off without getting out of bed. Is it perfect skincare? No. Is it better than nothing? Yes. This is the most realistic item on any beauty essentials list and I stand by that.
Okay so here’s what I actually do in the morning.

If I have five minutes:
Wash face. SPF. Mix skin tint and a drop of highlighter and slap it on. Concealer under eyes and on spots. Bronzer stick on cheeks and forehead. Cream blush. Brow gel. Mascara. Lip stain. Setting spray. Run out the door.
If I have two minutes:
Concealer. Brow gel. Mascara. Cream blush on cheeks and lips. Lip balm.
That’s it. That’s the whole thing. You don’t need more.
Look, I’ve been buying beauty products for a long time. I’ve bought the expensive and viral stuff. I’ve bought things because a pretty girl on Instagram told me to and then I never used them.
The real must have beauty products aren’t the ones with the most hype. They’re the ones you actually reach for when you’re half awake and your hair is still wet and you just need to look like a person who has their life together.
This beauty essentials list is just what works for me. You might hate cream blush. You might love powder foundation even though I don’t get it. That’s fine. Take what’s useful. Leave the rest.
