20 most Romantic Places in the World

I was not sure if I should write this down. Romance is not really about the places we go is it? It is about the person we’re with the way they look at us when they think we are not looking the sound of their laugh when we do something

Then I started thinking about all the moments I have had. The trips I have taken. The tears I have cried. The times I have sat in a place thats far from my home and felt so thankful to be alive. I understood. Places are important too. They keep our memories. They see our happiness. They become a part of our romance stories.

So I want to share these places with you. Not because I want you to visit all of them. Just because I want to invite you to dream a little about romance and the places that make it special.

Paris, France – My friends grandmother lived in Paris her life. I asked her if she still thought Paris was romantic. She said, “Child I see a man buying a warm baguette for his wife every morning. That’s what I call romance. Not the Eiffel Tower.” She made a point. What makes Paris one of the places in the world is its people.

A stranger who stops to ask if you are okay. It’s just so human.

Venice, Italy. I have to say, my first impression of Venice was not great. There were so many tourists everywhere.. Then something unexpected happened. I got really lost in the city. I was walking around. I stumbled upon this beautiful square by chance. That is where I saw an old man teaching his grandson how to whistle. The boy was really struggling to get it right.. His grandfather was very patient with him. They just kept trying and trying. I decided to sit down and watch them. I ended up sitting for a whole hour. That is what Venice is really like. It is not about riding around in gondolas. Venice is about all the little surprise moments you have when you are there. Venice is one of those places, in the world that makes you stop looking for big things and just enjoy the moment. Venice makes you slow down and just be yourself.

Santorini, Greece – I cried at the sunset in Santorini. So did a good number of the people surrounding me. One person gave me a tissue while another nodded his head like he knew our secret. This is one of the things which make this place so special for not is the sunset beautiful but the experience is shared. I witnessed a couple get engaged that evening. The man lost the ring. His girlfriend. Slipped the ring onto her finger herself.

Maldives – My cousin went for her honeymoon terrified. She and her husband had never spent than a weekend alone. Work. Chores. Life. Then they got there— water and sky and silence. They talked. Really talked. About childhood fears, future dreams, things they’d never said. They fell in love again. The Maldives isn’t luxury—it gives couples the gift of honesty.

Maui, Hawaii – I met a woman in Maui having the vacation. Flight delayed. Hotel lost her reservation. Sunburned.. She was grinning. Because her husband had led her to a beach kneeled down—she thought he was tying his shoe. He wasn’t. He was proposing. “I can’t be mad at Maui ” she laughed. “It gave me my memory.” Maui doesn’t promise perfection. It promises authenticity.. All. Still one of the romantic places in the world.

Kyoto, Japan – It is so peaceful and quiet that you can hear your heartbeats. I came there with my one. We didn’t converse much; just wandered around bamboo forests. Sat on the banks of rivers. This place taught me that love is not about walking. There is a shrine called Jishu, where people need to walk between two stones with their eyes shut; if they do their love stays forever. My loved one couldn’t walk; he fell down. I held him. We laughed much that our tears rolled down our cheeks.

Prague, Czech Republic – At four in the morning Prague is really empty. The mist is coming up from the river. There was a violinist playing on Charles Bridge. He was playing for nobody. I sat down. I listened to him for one hour. He played songs and hopeful songs. When the violinist finished playing he bowed down. Then he walked away. The city of Prague is one of the places in the world because Prague is a melancholic place. Prague accepts you when you are sad and Prague accepts you when you are longing for something. When Prague accepts you like that it is the thing that can happen to you.

Niagara Falls – My parents went here for their honeymoon. “Freezing ” my mom said. “Soaking wet. Miserable.. Your father looked at me like I was beautiful. I stopped noticing the cold.” That’s Niagara Falls.. Touristy.. Among the most romantic places in the world because its where ordinary people celebrate ordinary love. You don’t need an island. Just someone who looks at you like you’re everything.

Marrakesh, Morocco-There are many things to explore in Marrakesh, Morocco. There are colors, there are smells, there are sounds everywhere and this gives me an impression that I am going to lose my mind. However, I found the time to visit this great little rooftop cafe. I enjoyed the view while having some mint tea at the time of the sunset. This is the essence of Marrakesh. It is here that people get the chance to feel calm amid all the chaos. Marrakesh is the kind of place in the world which makes people yearn for their loved ones amidst all the chaos.

India – Taj Mahal. I start to reflect on the Taj Mahal. This was a monument that was erected by a man in commemoration of his wife. Think of the love for someone who you still remember after they’re gone that you have to erect something to show how long you’ll miss them for. Through the white marble corridors I reflected on sorrow and mourning. Not all romantic places are happy places.

Lake Bled, Slovenia – You row to the island church. Your arms ache. You question your choices. Then you ring the bell make a wish and look at the person next to you—sweaty, tired. You realize this is love. Not the easy stuff. The stuff worth working for. Lake Bled is beautifully simple.

Iceland – Harsh. Wind cuts through you. Weather changes every minute. Then suddenly—northern lights explode across the sky. You pull over step into the freezing air and forget everything. Iceland says, “I won’t make this easy.. I’ll make it unforgettable.” Love is like that too. Hard sometimes.. Worth every second.

Bruges, Belgium – too charming. Canals, cobblestones, chocolate. There’s a Lovers Bridge—kiss and love lasts forever. I don’t know if that’s true.. I watched a couple kiss there nervous and hopeful. That’s what Bruges gives you. Permission to believe in something. Even for a moment.

Udaipur, India – For lovers who want to feel like royalty. I met a couple on their anniversary. “We saved for years ” she said. “We wanted to feel our love was worth celebrating.” Udaipur reminds us that love deserves ceremony. Udaipur says—honor what you have.

Cape Town, South Africa – I saw a couple on the waterfront. The man was trying to teach the woman how to dance. He wasn’t very good, at it. She kept stepping on his feet.. He didn’t mind. They were both. Holding each other tight.

Cape Town seems to be saying that it’s okay to not be perfect. Just be there. Show your love openly.

Jaipur India – Chaos. Pink walls, camels, markets.. In the middle intimacy. A young couple sharing a samosa feeding each crumbs lost in their world. Jaipur proves love thrives anywhere— in a crowd.

Cinque Terre, Italy – The hike is brutal. Steep, sweaty long.. You reach the next village look at each other—exhausted, sunburned happy. You earned this. Cinque Terre doesn’t give you anything. Just like love.

Banff, Canada – the mountains are really big. That makes your problems seem small. I sat by a lake with someone I care about. We did not talk. We just watched the snow fall. Banff Canada helps you see things clearly. 

Ljubljana Slovenia is a place. The name Ljubljana actually means “beloved” which’s pretty cool. This city is small. It does not try to show off. You can see couples walking together along the river. They hold hands and laugh. The sound of their laughter goes across the water. This shows that Ljubljana Slovenia is loved even if it is not famous. Ljubljana Slovenia is loved the way it’s

Bora Bora, French Polynesia – I’ve never been. I’m saving it. I want to go with someone who matters. Someone who makes me nervous and calm. Bora Bora is possibility. The possibility of love. Of happiness. Of everything.

The truth is that I have been to a lot of places. The romantic place I have ever been to is a small apartment, on a rainy night. My girlfriend. I were trying to make dinner together but we were not doing a very good job. We were singing along to some music. The kitchen was a mess. Then I looked across the room at my girlfriend. I felt my heart get bigger.

That is the secret to romance. Romantic places are not actually places you can visit. They are moments when you feel really close to someone.

The romantic places are when you are with someone who loves you and you feel like they really see you for who you’re

So go, travel, dream.. Remember, romance is not on a map. It is in places like the kitchen. The couch.

It is, in the moments when nobody’s watching. That’s what makes romance worth everything.
