Let us be honest. By the time you get to the honeymoon part you are really exhausted. You have spent months thinking about seating charts and cake flavors etc. The honeymoon part is what you are talking about here. You are exhausted by the time you get to the honeymoon part. Your brain is very tired, from all the planning. Your patience is very thin now. Now someone expects you to plan another wedding thing or another big thing and that is just too much to ask sometimes. The honeymoon part is supposed to be fun. You are exhausted from planning the wedding and now you have to think about the honeymoon part.
I get it.
But here is the truth: this is the one part of the wedding that is just for you two. No relatives to impress. No timeline to stick to. Just the two of you new finally able to breathe.
So let us forget about the pressure. Let us forget about all those itineraries on Pinterest. We will build a Honeymoon Planning Checklist that feels like something we can really do. It will even be fun. We will make this Honeymoon Planning Checklist our own.
Ultimate Honeymoon Planning Checklist

1. First Have the What Do We Actually Want Talk
I know this sounds obvious. You would be surprised how many couples skip this step.
You might want beaches and piña coladas. Your partner might want to hike volcanoes. Eat street food. Neither is wrong—they are just different.
So sit down together. Not during wedding chaos. Pick an evening order some takeout and just talk.
My honest advice is that if one person wants to relax and the other person wants to do something you should pick a place that has both things.
For example Costa Rica or Bali have jungle treks where you can go on adventures and resorts where you can just hang out and do nothing.
I think that finding a ground is really important in a relationship.
Costa Rica and Bali are places to find this balance because they have a lot of different things to do.
Compromise is a part of love so it is good to find ways to compromise when you are traveling with someone.
Costa Rica and Bali are choices because they have something, for everyone so you can both get what you want.
2. The Money Talk
Okay lets be real. Talking about money with your spouse feels unromantic. Being stressed about credit card bills while sipping champagne on a balcony feels more unromantic.
Be real with each other. What can you afford? Not what your friends spent. Not what Instagram makes you feel you should spend. Just you two.
Honeymoon registries are genius. Let your guests gift you experiences. A snorkeling trip. A couple’s massage. A fancy dinner. It makes them feel included and takes the edge off for you.
Build in a buffer. There will be expenses. Give yourself some wiggle room— you will thank yourself.
3. Picking the Spot
This is where the fun starts.
Also where the overwhelm kicks in. There are thousands of options. So let me simplify it.
Think about:
· Weather: Do you want sun? Snow? Somewhere in between?
· Time: How many days do you have? Be realistic.
· Vibe: City buzz? Mountain peace? Beach bliss?
I like to travel during the shoulder season. The weather is really nice during the shoulder season. There are not many people around. This means the crowds are thinner during the shoulder season.
Prices for things, like hotels and flights drop during the shoulder season.
My wallet and my sanity will really appreciate it when I travel during the shoulder season.
If you are on a budget don’t sleep on all-inclusives in Mexico or the Dominican Republic. They take the guesswork out of everything.
Just pick something that makes you smile. Not your mother-in-law. Not your best friend. You.
4. Book the Big Stuff
Once you have your destination don’t drag your feet on flights and hotels.
Popular honeymoon spots book fast. Especially if you want that ocean-view room.
Aim to lock these in six months out. You will get flight deals and more room choices.
When you book, tell everyone that it’s your honeymoon. The hotel receptionist. The booking agent. The tour guide.
You will be surprised how often saying this gets you a free room upgrade.
It can also get you a bottle of bubbly.
Even a dessert surprise.
5. Plan Some Romance. Leave Room for Laziness
I see many couples go wrong here.
They pack their honeymoon like an operation. Sunrise yoga. 9 AM city tour. 1 PM cooking class.
By day two they are exhausted.
Pick one thing per day. A romantic dinner. A private boat ride.. Then leave the rest of the day open.
Some of the honeymoon memories happen when you have no plans. Sleeping in. Wandering into a café. Taking a nap.
That is the luxury of being newly married—you get to be unproductive
If planning still feels like much? Hire a travel agent who specializes in honeymoons. They handle the logistics, score you VIP treatment and leave you free to enjoy.
6. The Boring but Necessary Stuff
I hate this part too. We have to do it.
Passports: Check the expiry date. Many countries require six months of validity beyond your return date. Renew it if necessary.
Name change drama: If you are changing your name bring a copy of your marriage certificate.
Visas: Some countries need them weeks in advance.
Travel insurance—I know it feels like throwing money away. Imagine getting sick abroad or losing your luggage. That insurance is your safety net. Buy it.
7. Packing, Final Checks and Letting Go
A days before the wedding take one hour to pack your carry-on.
You should put your passports, your chargers, your medications, a swimsuit and a change of clothes in there.
You need to check all your bookings, for your flights your hotels and your transfers. It is an idea to screenshot your confirmations for your flights, your hotels and your transfers.
Then—set your out-of-office reply and let go.
Your emails will wait and work will survive without you and your family will manage.
This is your time. Your first real days as a couple. No schedules, no obligations, no one to please but each other.
Your Honeymoon Your Rules
Here is what I want you to remember: there is no honeymoon.
There is your honeymoon.
Maybe it rains on your beach day, you missed a train, one of you gets a sunburn. None of that ruins the magic.
What matters is that you are together. You are finally officially married. You get to wake up every morning of this trip next, to your favorite person.
That is the honeymoon planning checklist.
Everything else is details.
Now go—plan, dream. Get excited. Your adventure is waiting.
