I spent years trying to shrink my belly with crunches like actually years hundreds of crunches thousands of crunches probably millions if you add them all up.
And my belly looked exactly the same.
Flabby soft stubborn just sitting there like a little pillow I couldn’t get rid of no matter how many times I curled my spine on the floor like a desperate desperate person.
I thought I was broken I thought my body just didn’t want to change I thought maybe I was one of those people who would always have a belly no matter what.
Turns out I was just doing the wrong exercises.
Crunches don’t burn belly fat they just work the muscle underneath the fat and if the fat is still sitting on top nobody can see that muscle anyway including you.
What finally worked for me was not crunching myself into exhaustion it was finding the right Yoga Poses for Belly Fat Reduction that actually target the whole core and burn calories at the same time.
Let me tell you what worked and what didn’t so maybe you don’t waste as many years as I did, and try these yoga poses.
Boat Pose
I know you’ve heard this one before but please hear me again because I did this pose wrong for so long.
You sit on your mat lean back lift your legs so your body makes a V shape arms reaching forward toward your feet.
The wrong way is barely lifting your feet off the ground with rounded shoulders and a sad little belly hanging out while you count to ten and call it done.
The right way is lifting your chest first then your feet keeping your spine long and straight and pulling your belly button toward your spine like you’re zipping up a tight pair of jeans.
Hold for twenty seconds and if you’re not shaking you’re not doing it right.
When I finally learned to do Boat Pose correctly my lower belly stopped being so stubborn after about three weeks I could see a difference not flat exactly but tighter like something was waking up down there.
And that’s the thing about real Yoga Poses for Belly Fat Reduction they don’t feel easy they feel hard and that hard feeling is the feeling of your belly finally changing.
Plank Pose
I’m sorry I keep coming back to Plank but it’s because Plank is the truth and we’ve all been lying to ourselves about it.
Plank works your entire front body your deep core your shoulders your arms your back your legs everything.
But only if you do it right.
Most people sag in Plank their belly hangs toward the floor like a drawbridge that fell down and their low back hurts because they’re just dangling there.
Here’s the fix pull your belly button up toward your spine squeeze your glutes push your heels back imagine someone is about to drop a book on your low back and you don’t want it to fall.
Hold Plank for thirty seconds then rest then do it again.
When I added three rounds of Plank to my daily routine five days a week I finally started seeing my belly change in a way that a thousand crunches never did.
Plank is one of those Yoga Poses for Belly Fat Reduction that looks simple but humbles everyone the first time they do it right.
Warrior III
This one is hard and I almost gave up on it ten times but I’m so glad I didn’t.
You stand on one foot lean your body forward while lifting your back leg behind you until your body makes a T shape arms reaching forward like Superman.
Your standing leg should be straight not locked but strong and your hips should stay level not tilted.
The magic of Warrior III for belly fat is that you cannot do this pose without engaging your entire core if your core is weak you’ll wobble and fall if your core is strong you’ll stand there looking like a powerful beautiful.
I started with five seconds on each side and felt like a baby deer learning to walk now I can hold for thirty seconds and my belly is so much flatter than it used to be.
Warrior III belongs on any honest list of Yoga Poses for Belly Fat Reduction because it forces your whole middle to work or you fall over there’s no hiding in this pose.
Side Plank
This one humbled me and I need to be honest about that.
From Plank you shift your weight onto one hand stack your feet and lift your top arm toward the sky your body should be one straight line from your head to your heels.
The first time I tried Side Plank I lasted three seconds then collapsed onto my mat like a beached whale and just lay there questioning all my life choices.
But here’s what nobody told me Side Plank works your obliques the muscles on the sides of your belly and those muscles are usually very very asleep for most people.
When you wake them up your waist starts to look different not just flat but cinched like someone took an inch off each side.
I worked up to fifteen seconds on each side and the difference in my waist measurement after two months was an inch and a half I’m not kidding.
Side Plank is one of those Yoga Poses for Belly Fat Reduction that feels impossible until one day it doesn’t and that day is so worth the struggle.
Bridge Pose
This one looks easy and then you hold it and then you realize you’ve been scammed.
You lie on your back knees bent feet flat on the floor hip width apart then you lift your hips up toward the ceiling.
The wrong way is just lifting your hips with a relaxed belly and feeling nothing except maybe your low back complaining.
The right way is squeezing your glutes at the top like you’re holding a pencil back there I know that’s weird imagery but it works and pulling your belly button down toward your spine while keeping your thighs parallel.
Hold for thirty seconds then lower down slow then lift again do this ten times.
Your lower belly and your glutes and your low back will all be sore tomorrow in the best way possible.
Bridge Pose doesn’t get enough attention when people talk about Yoga Poses for Belly Fat Reduction but it should because it works your entire core from the front to the back.
Downward Dog with Leg Lifts
This one is a sneaky addition but hear me out.
You start in Downward Dog hips high heels reaching toward the floor then you lift one leg up toward the ceiling keeping your hips level not tilting to one side.
Then you lower it slow and switch sides.
The reason this works your belly is because you have to stabilize your whole body while one leg moves if your core is weak your hips will wobble all over the place and if your core is strong you’ll stay still like a table.
I do ten lifts on each side and by the end my lower belly is shaking.
Shaking means working and working means changing.
I almost didn’t include this one but honestly these sneaky Yoga Poses for Belly Fat Reduction are sometimes the ones that make the biggest difference because you don’t realize how hard your core is working until the next day when you’re sore in places you forgot existed.
Conclusion
Just pick one pose from this list just one do it today for thirty seconds.
Then tomorrow add another one. Then next week add another one.
These Yoga Poses for Belly Fat Reduction are not magic but they are real and they work if you work and if you stop doing things that don’t work like a thousand useless crunches.
Your belly will catch up I promise it just needs you to stop crunching and start doing poses that actually matter.
